The Pauline Leblond Double Quartet is an unexpected meeting of musical worlds: a classical string quartet entwined with the freedom of a jazz quartet. At the helm, trumpeter and composer Pauline Leblond leads this unique ensemble through a poetic exploration of two traditions—separated by centuries, yet kindred in soul: baroque and jazz. In her compositions, fugues and chorales weave seamlessly with improvisation and swing, echoing the legacies of Bach, Corelli, and Ellington. Textures collide or melt together, rhythms sway, and a new musical language takes shape—elegant, vibrant, and cinematic.

Early on, Pauline Leblond found in baroque music a surprising affinity with jazz: the same melodic richness, the ever-shifting harmonic frameworks, a shared passion for phrasing and tone color—and, above all, the spirit of improvisation and dance, alive at the heart of both styles. From this revelation was born a first triptych, "22.1030", followed by a suite of reinvented baroque dances—Gavotte, Rigaudon, Allemande, Passacaille—featured in her debut EP "Suite de Danses", and now "L’oubli", an album where these musical worlds intertwine and reflect one another in a game of contrasts and echoes. Balancing between reimagined traditions and uncharted sonic landscapes, the Double Quartet invites you to a bold and poetic listening experience.

Le Pauline Leblond Double Quartet, c’est la rencontre surprenante entre un quatuor à cordes et un quartet de jazz. Portée par la trompettiste et compositrice Pauline Leblond, cette formation hybride explore les liens insoupçonnés entre deux univers musicaux éloignés dans le temps mais proches par l’esprit : le jazz et la musique baroque. Dans les compositions de Pauline Leblond, on entend se croiser fugues, chorals, improvisations et swing en écho à Johann Sebastian Bach, Arcangelo Corelli, ou Duke Ellington. Les timbres se fondent ou s’opposent, les rythmes dansent et une esthétique nouvelle émerge : vibrante, élégante, cinématographique.

C’est de cette intuition qu’est née une première œuvre en trois mouvements, « 22.1030 », puis une suite de danses baroques réinventées – Gavotte, Rigaudon, Allemande, Passacaille – dans un premier EP "Suite de Danses" et maintenant le répertoire de 'album "L'oubli", où les univers s’entremêlent et se répondent dans un jeu d’échos et de contrastes.
